This page is devoted to articles found in the media that promote the European idea by means of non political events. 1)The EU is king of the Games Are we really European? If so, then Let us celebrate that the EU got much more medals than the other world powers. At the elections for the European parliament, last year summer, it was made clear to us that we are Europeans. Why didn't we cheer for the Austrian skiers? Or the German bobsleigh team? A French biathlete? Finishs ice hockey players? They are after all our countrymen. It would be a lot more work, all that cheering, but good for our national European self-awareness. The EU is after all the star of the Winter games and defeats when it comes to medal ranking the other super powers by a street length. Russia has three gold medals, so few that Putin has expressed his displeasure about it. China has five golden slices. The U.S. have nine. And the EU? Thirty-one! Even if you correct according to the number of inhabitants (the EU has almost twice as much inhabitants as the U.S.) it still is a generous score. Something to be euro chauvinistic about. One can only hope that the IOC for the time being is not yet aware of the fact of the unification of Europe because as long as the present situation remains the European states can send their own delegations and our chances of winning the most medals remain high. We would find it very strange if Colorado, Utah and Oregon came with their own selection. In the mean time we should practise for the next Games. Forza Giuliano! (Giulano Razzoli, slalom.) Go, Amy! (Amy Williams, skeleton.) And go go Justyna, or how they say that in Poland. (Justyna Kowalczyk, 30 km cross country.) Abridged and translated article by Herbert Blankesteijn, a journalist.
